About Paul and his Mission
Paul was known as Saul of Tarsus. He was not the founder of Christianity but he was seeking and destroying Christianity. He was in the leadership position of the Pharisees. Why would he resign his commission if he wanted to be in a place of power and authority to follow an unknown persecuted religion?
Phillipians 3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
He was born a Roman, the highest level of citizenship at that time. He was Saul of Tarsus.
Acts 22:27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. 28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. 29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
When did Paul meet Jesus?
Jesus appeared to Saul on his mission to seek and destroy Christians, he loses sight when he is stopped by Jesus he was given back his sight by the disciple Ananias. Saul changed his name to Paul after he became Christian:
Acts 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Jesus appeared to Saul on a mission to destroy Christians, it blinded him, he was later healed by a disciple of Christ.
Acts 22:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
Was Paul the famous Saul after he met with Jesus?
He changed both inward and outward, he leaves it all behind calling his earlier designation, power, prestiege and political influence as garbage and following Jesus. He changed even his name from Saul to Paul that he may not be associated with his former life.
Philippians 3:8-21
I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
