The Atheist Dilemma

Science Explains How. God Reveals Why.

Science has transformed our understanding of the universe. It has uncovered the laws of physics, mapped billions of galaxies, decoded DNA, and even enabled gene editing. Every discovery reveals astonishing order, beauty, and complexity in creation (Psalm 19:1–4; Romans 1:20).

Yet science answers how things work—it cannot fully answer why anything exists at all (Job 38–41; Isaiah 55:8–9).

What Science Reveals

The universe had a beginning (Genesis 1:1; Hebrews 11:3).

The heavens are vast beyond imagination (Genesis 15:5; Psalm 147:4).

DNA contains the instructions for life (Psalm 139:13–16).

The human body is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

Human intelligence can now edit genetic code, reflecting the creativity and stewardship God entrusted to humanity (Genesis 1:26–28).

Many see these discoveries as evidence of natural processes; others see them pointing to an intelligent Creator (Romans 1:20).

Questions Science Cannot Fully Answer

Science still cannot fully explain:

Why the laws of physics exist.

Why the universe is finely tuned for life.

Why DNA contains information.

The origin of consciousness.

Why there is something rather than nothing.

Scripture reminds us that not everything has been revealed to us (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Evidence, Speculation & Faith

Not every popular idea is established science.

Manifestation, astrology, and many New Age beliefs lack convincing scientific evidence (Isaiah 47:13–15; Deuteronomy 18:10–12). Parallel universes and simulation theory remain interesting hypotheses rather than confirmed facts.

Scripture encourages us to "test everything; hold fast what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Great Minds Asked Bigger Questions

Albert Einstein admired the rational order of the universe and spoke of a higher reality reflected in nature.

Stephen Hawking rejected a Creator yet seriously considered the possibility of advanced extraterrestrial civilizations.

Francis Collins saw the elegance of DNA as strengthening his Christian faith.

Antony Flew, once a leading atheist philosopher, concluded that DNA's complexity pointed to an intelligent source.

Different conclusions—but all recognized that ultimate origins extend beyond laboratory measurements.

The Bible's Answer

The Bible declares that creation reflects purpose and design.

"For You created my inmost being... I am fearfully and wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:13–14)

Humanity is created in God's image (Genesis 1:26–27), for good works (Ephesians 2:10), to seek Him (Acts 17:26–28), and to become His dwelling through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16).

"The heavens declare the glory of God." (Psalm 19:1)

Science and Faith

Science asks, "How?"

Faith asks, "Why?"

These questions complement rather than contradict one another.

Science expands our knowledge.

Faith reveals our purpose.

Christ offers not only an explanation for creation but hope beyond this life through resurrection and eternal life (John 11:25–26; John 14:1–3).

Seek Him. Know Him. Live your purpose.
